embedded photos?

I have a before and after shot of a tree I thinned, would like to get peoples opinion of the job. Would probably look better in the text, next to each other.

I notice some people embed photos in the text of their posts.

How do you do this, is it encouraged, or does it slow the page for slow speed users?

Thanks

If you want to make a post that most 'dial up' Buzzers fear most.... These threads have to be uploaded and if you want to read the last post on a thread with many pictures embedded these guys have a long night with little to read.

But, here is the trick. Post your pictures on the internet somewhere (anywhere).
Copy the URL and past it in the post using the 'image' button just below the form you use to make a post.

flickr.com is my favorite....I pay $25 a year, for unlimited storage, and full-rez images if I so choose..which can be protected so no one could view/download them if I choose...sort of like a backup. flickr's downloader is great. Just highlight as many photos as you want and drag them all at once to the downloader.

photobucket.com

pbase.com

webshots.com

smugmug.com

and a slew more

I embed pictures also, as it's easier for me. Hate to upset dialuppers, but that's the breaks...If more folks besides Glens complained, I might not do it as much. (sorry Glens, I like ya, but.....speaking of the guy, anyone seen him lately?) I think the TreeHouse's system is best. You can upload several pics in one post...(not embed) but they come up in a viewable (not tiny thumb) size. Hi-speeders can click on the image for the larger version. Wish the Buzz would implement this method....

My pictures are so large even i have issues with seeing them.

for my personal pictures i use smugmug.com, there is a charge, but i have over 3000 pics out there, stored in gallery's that can be shared in many different ways. for items on here, i too use photobucket, but putting in the url links works better for me. this way only those that want to see the pictures visit the link.

one thing about photobucket links/inserts, if you delete them from there the link is broken and the picture is gonzo.

enjoy the trees you climb and the rivers that have water enough to run them. doing a rain dance in georgia.

Ummmm Any place you upload pictures to, link to, then delete the picture; breaks the link.

Another avenue would be to make an attachment; open the attachment; get the address of that page; edit your post to embed an image of that address/your attachment.

To make pics load faster; might try to downgrade the image to lower resolution(usually can't tell on internet if you don't take it real far) and/or resize smaller. Sometimes radically faster downloads.
