Electric professional chainsaws

I know that electric chain saws are very popuolar among landscapers for cutting railroad ties and posts and stuff of that nature.

I would think the battery powered saws are similar in thought to the battery powered drills a contractor might use..

Unfortunately the battery power does not last that long and the bumper spikes made of plastic don't look that great..

What about all the torque and its effects on chaps and safety? I remember reading somewhere that chaps would not be as effective with an electric chainsaw.

Ted, this is correct. Chaps are NOT RATED for electric chainsaw use. So all of those indoor demos at TCIA and ISA are, well, not compliant. Shhhhhhh!!!!

Has anyone done actual testing on this?

Good question. When the demand for the product gets high enough, someone will. Until then folks will wear regular chaps and hope for the best.

Additionally, I would think that the rpm's and power to weight ratio associated with electric chainsaws would diminish the potential for kickback, thereby reducing (or changing?) the need for or placement of PPE. A whole different animal, perhaps.

I have the Stihl battery saw, it's got it's place for certain applications but you can't use it in the rain or light drizzle.

Got the fast charger for it so battery powers up in about 20 mins.

Scroll down to the warnings. It's either a CYA or a legit concern, I don't know.
