EAB

Yup. Those pecky buggers are out here in my neck of the woods too. Were found in Warren dunes state park. Some logging company with all new equipment that was making a killing off of govt eab contracts came in for some woods destruction. Had "If you don't like loggers, try using plastic toilet paper" plastered all over his trucks and machinery. I myself find the whole idea of clearing buffer zones so the insect doesn't spread a bit mysterious. How effective has this really been? EAB is spreading fast. Look at dutch elm disease. We have it all over the place in michigan and noone is doing anything about it, and we still have elms and forests and bugs and firewood.

My two cents.... well, leave the bug do his distruction. It is a natural thinning at worst. Lets deal with the root of the problem... bringing in foreign pests from overseas.

Hard to say how much it's slowed it down; but eradication can't stop it. It does kill big strong resistant trees, makes money for removal experts, and makes foresters feel good cuz they see something being done.

I think it's a waste of my tax money and I hope it's stopped, in favor of treatment.
