Dynamic crown support system on old beech

Geez...would you stop with the girdling! If dynamic cables are installed properly and inspected according to specifications and standards there is no girdling.

Your anti-dynamic arguements are built on the premise that the installations are done wrong...do back to my metaphor. do you understand my point?

Where's the testing that proves what you think is in fact true Tom. And I mean in soft bark trees like Alnus rhombifolia? You can't even step on a white alder branch without tearing the bark and cambium off it, and you know it!

No I don't...I've never even seen a white alder.

YOu're looking for a large, thick blanket to cover all cabling problems. Keep looking, there isn't a one sized fits-all solution for anything that is really practical.

The fact that Alnus rhombifolia, Betula pendula and a long list of other soft barked trees are in fact prone to damage when even as little as 200 lbs of force are applied to them, totally disqualifies them as candidates for the Cobra system being used on them, period. Heck I have to use a dang bucket to install traditional steel cabling systems on them without inflicting undue damage on them!

Where's the disclaimers for installing the Cobra system on these soft barked trees Tom?

Has the ISA or ANSI A300 committees addressed or even considered these pertinent facts whatsoever?

How're these fact based problems going to reflect on the ISA when they land them in a court of law Tom?

Will Tobe Sherrill be liable for selling these ill thought out products to his customers once a court has rendered a judgement against Cobra?

jomoco

ANSI is not ISA is not Sherrill is not installers

What about any of the other dynamic cabling systems? Why are you only naming Cobra?

If you have a problem with any ANSI standard you can take the time and energy to submit input to the committee.

I've done that on the issue of J lag use in softwoods with no results to date. As long as the wood is healthy, their standards still say lag away boys and girls!

TCIA mag publishes completely bogus typos with no corrections in their following issues.... and the quackery goes on and on and on.

The only language they cherish it seems is money paid to them by their advertisers. Facts and truth take a back seat quite consistently.

I'm glad to see passionate debate: great points on both sides, and some serious sass!

Cobra has always been sold to me as non-invasive in tensioned installations, and after seeing the results at the 5 year mark I would most certainly avoid ever utilizing Cobra that way. That's not to say it doesn't have a spot in my toolbox.

Dunlap, check your pm...

"I've done that on the issue of J lag use in softwoods with no results to date."

Was this 5 years ago, at the last rewrite? If formally submitted you should get a response. Review again next month; things will be different!

"As long as the wood is healthy, their standards still say lag away boys and girls!"

That is not accurate--there is a limit. Look it up.

Errors in the rants are pains in the sass.
