dump trailer help?

I've been in the market for a dump trailer for about a month and finding one used seems impossible. Seems like sleequipment.com is my best bet. Now my question for those that have used them for brush is, what size is big enough? Will a 12' be worth it or should I shell out the extra 2k to get a 14'? Thanks for you time all feedback is appreciated.

Bigger is better almost always. My dump is 20'x4'x8', if I build one, it'll be at least 22' to fit the lift. I've got a notion to go 28-30' with a fifth wheel.

Im trying to spend around 6 though. Everything around 20' is over 10k. I'm thinking dump trailer because it'll be cheaper then getting a dump truck and chipper, as far as maintenance and expenses.

Definitely go for the 14' over the 12' and 16' would be better still. Twenty foot would be nice for hauling but it would be hard to manouver through tight spaces (like mcdonalds drive thru for coffee) so seems to big for my urban area.

14' even gets long depending on where you are working. If it's just for brush you could go 12' and derate it under 10k. But the extra two feet are nice to have. I've seen guys get a 18-20' car hauler wood up the sides and lay rope or chains on the bottom then tie it off and tie that to a big log at the dump. If I could do it over I'd get a small dump truck and then dump trailer. You can always slash into truck alone for small prunes and rent a chipper when u need to. Then get the trailer to slash into more or haul equipment as you acquire it.whichever route you take you'll get sick of slashing quickly.

My dump is a gooseneck, it gets into most properties easily enough, but I don't take it through drive throughs. Before this trailer I had a 16' tag dump, gooseneck is the way to go for me for sure.

I can definitely see the advantage to a gooseneck. A company I used to work for had a loader trailer they put sides on and we could weasel that thing in some tight places

You want a dump trailer. I bought my 7'x16'x3' and my current gooseneck dump trailer for $4500 each, just gotta wait for the deals or pony up.

I would not want longer than a 16' tag dump usually, they drag the ground more than my 28' flatbed!

did you buy used? sleequipment is the cheapest I've found but i figure I'll see a bunch go up for sale this winter when people are needing money.

Just be patient. I wanted a gooseneck dump either 12 or 14 ft. I wanted the maneuverability. With a box built on it, it is easy to max out the weight rating with chips. I got mine without a scratch in the bed used for 4500. I chip into it or slash into it depending on the job. I like having the weight on the trailer instead of the truck.

I did the equipment hauler for a while but had a tractor to pull it off with.

Even with the tractor the dump trailer is much more efficient.
The advantage of trailers is they remain useful even as you upgrade your fleet.

So true. Yet stacking brush can be a pita. Especially those curly trees with 90 degree bends all over the place or larger removals.

I kept looking for a used dump trailer with some extra room up front to possibly mount a chipper or mini skid in the future but had no luck.

This is a cool thread if you haven't seen it: http://treebuzz.com/forum/threads/chipper-dump-combo-trailer.29781/

i bought a bri-mar 12k gvw 12' by 6' solid 2' sides and 2' mesh with hinge top gate that comes off, bottom barn doors roll tarp system, hide a away ramps. its around fish yards, i rent trailer out to certain customers as a " dumpster". it was 7200 out the door. monthly payment was 230. if you only want to have a all in trailer then get a 14' by 7' then you can fit skid steer mini excavator inside it. the 14' should come with dual stage pistons as well. i have 2 equipment trailers i use for machine moves. me personallly i can't wait to get a tri axle roll off and get rid of trailers and put the machines in the box. but until then this is what i do
