Dropped top handle saw today...

I forget which saw I looked at the attachment ring on, either a 193t or 200t, but you remove one piece of plastic and then it replaces with one torx screw, if I remember correctly
Huh..idk but I'm going to take a pic tomorrow and I'll put it up on here for you guys. My dad was playing around with it when we got to the next job and I was in the bucket trying to bend it back but I don't think he got anywhere with it.

Yeah I know what you mean..huh never ever thought to try. I don't think mine could be fixed tho. The wire. Don't think a weld or something would hold. Wouldn't really trust it. Makes me want a new saw. But prob won't get one for a couple more years.
Yeah, you’ll definitely have to replace the wire loop first..... never woulda thought that would be a fail point.

I had a husky 540 attachment point break and got lucky, can’t recall but I think i still had my hand on the saw and fumble caught it. The husky is made out of plastic. I don’t trust those tiny little wires either. On the echo 2511’s I now take a piece of throw line and a tiny quick link and anchor from the handle bar to the lanyard. I have a dedicated lanyard that stays on the saw. And now after hearing about your incident I’m going to install back up tethers on my new ported 201t’s that I’m enjoying so much. Seems like the saw makers are really scrimping on the attachment points. Be nice if they beefed them up a bit. I for one don’t care if the saw is a half ounce lighter, put something strong there.

here ya go Chris

Ok nice. I've just got to take another look at it tomorrow. Got rained out today. I've gotta see if it can be fixed.

Thinking of just dropping it off at our saw barn. Our sthil dealing we call in the saw barn.

If it can be fixed I want to make sure it's done right. I don't want it falling out of the tree again. I'm lucky if didn't fail sooner. At one point I was probably about 50 60 ft setting my climber

Here's a few pics... Just noticed today that the cover where the chain is may have gotten broke a little I gotta take a look when I get a chance. But running fineIMG_20210604_083222566.jpgIMG_20210604_083158035.jpg

dang man, what did you do? forgot your rigging blocks so you used the loop?

joking aside, that is an extremely cheap fix

I dropped a coworkers saw out of a tree once onto concrete. He didn’t use a lanyard and the ring missed the carabiner on my harness. There was a distraction from the property manager coming out of nowhere yelling about something and I had to store the saw. Turns out he was just an obnoxious a-hole and wasn’t pissed about anything. The saw was such a POS but was unfazed and kept running. I was mostly pissed at myself and the PM for coming into the work zone like he did.

I do prefer this style lanyard as opposed to using that little ring.

Oh ok yeah I like those too...I have the 1 for a big saw. The green one. I was thinking of doing the same thing. So that's what I'll have to do. After I took the pic I used it for awhile in the bucket then switched to the 46 when I got my 201 back they rigged some metal wire in there. I dont like the look of that and I wouldn't trust it again. And yeah it sucks to drop a saw I've done it a couple times over the years. Luckily nothing serious ever happened. Thanks for the advice man. Much appreciated. I love this site man. Wish I found it sooner . Stay safe

Hahaha...yeah it's crazy. Idk wtf happened. Like I was saying before I don't stowe my saw hard or anything. I can't believe it. I think I am going to take it to our saw barn see what they say about it. Might be able to make it there tomorrow if I get this job done fast enough.

IDK if I trust those loops anymore lol
if you do chose to use it again, it wont take by 5 minutes to fix

It looks more like that metal ring got twisted or dislodged. The two bent ends on the right side of the picture should be under the the metal sleeve. Dare I say it seems like it could be fixed without mew parts. Hard to say over the internet but that’s just what I see.

Maybe idk yet...I'm just having our saw barn look at it. Dropped it off after work today. Fucking used it all weekend we'll made 2 or 3 cuts with it yesterday then it just shut off and wouldn't start again.

I under bid this job I did sat and Sunday about 10 hours total and luckily they gave me 200 extra for the job and the old man gave me a $275 tip. I was like damn ok. Thanks I appreciate it. I ended up making $750 after paying 2 guys. So it was spot on after the extra and tip I got. I was glad.

I’m a little late jumping in, I can see it happening if you clip the saw dee to metal hardware. Personally I’ve never done so. Most all my top handles have a lanyard girthed to the saws dee. When using the saw on the ground the laynard gets clipped to my belt, or back to the close haul ring. My 020t has one of the weaver short straps (the 6” ones that are good for a rear handle). I got a few of em because the lanyards I use to use were a little too short for my reach with my left hand.

Gotta love when it all comes together.

I used to always clip to it. And I'd have a old carabiner in there for when stowing. I do have 1 of those notch recoils I've been using lately kind of a pain in the ass to get use to tho. Gets right in the way. Also have 1 or 2 of those short 1s your talking about maybe I'll try 1 of those seem like they wouldn't get in the way as much.

When I dropped off my 201..I was looking at a 194 I was tempted $350. Half of what a 201 cost. I've never ran a 194 any thoughts a buddy has 1 seems like a pretty good saw
