Double-braid Point Z

Hey folks. Ive been splicing double-braid rope for about 2 years. Most often I'm working with "used" rope and therefore following the "modified"eye splice procedure where the core is cut at Point X before running home the splice.

When splicing new rope, I often struggle to bury the core all the way through to Point Z. Attached is a pic from Samson's instructions for context.

Can anyone share advice on how to make this easier? Thanks in advance.

Are you using a push fid or a wire fid to pull it through? I have the best luck with a wire fid inserted at Z - run it up between the core and cover being careful not to snag any fibers and exit through mark T. Put the core in the fid, I pull an inch through the fid - then I remove anywhere from a half to two thirds of the core I pulled through leaving only a small amount to be folded back onto itself as it gets pulled through the cover.

Hopefully that makes sense - if not let me know and I can try to explain it better!
