DOT sign.

I am wondering how you guys feel about this issue, seeing as how many on here probably have CDL's.

I was driving today on a state owned, "truck route" and was about to pass by a DOT yard when I saw a flashing sign on the side of the road... one of those trailer mounted units. It said "Do not pass on right, high accident area." or something to that affect. After that message was displayed, it was followed by something similar.. only in Spanish.

Does this bother anybody else?

When I was in England for the ISA conference years ago I was driving along one of the motorways and saw a billboard that said "Do not undertake" I thought about what that might mean and couldn't come up with anything. When I asked a Brit at the conference he explained that it was a warning for people to pass from the slow lane. think of it as being the opposite of overtaking and passing on the left, not in the UK,, or fast lane.

Correct highway etiquette is to move to the slow lane so that no one ever expects to have someone pass on the low/under side.

Oh, the sign that I read was in real English :)

If you are not actively overtaking a car, you should not be in one of the left lanes regardless of speed.

Driving in the US sucks - we need more educated drivers and it would be a lot nicer if a license cost $1-2K.

Agree Nate...yesterday I drove from Dallas to near Ft. Worth. the right lane was empty most of the way and the left lane was full of semis and boat trailers being towed. I thought that I was back in the UK on the wrong side of the road.

One of Governor Jesse 'The Driver' Ventura's legacy in Minnesota was to push through a bill making it illegal to drive slow, even if at the speeedlimit, in the left lane. Good intentions but not what a guv should have been championing...oh, I voted for Jesse 'The Brain' so I can crab about his tenure ha ha

Turn south on 35 and it doesn't get any better.

I think the problem comes from people wanting to be in the left lane where they don't have to deal with merging traffic entering or exiting traffic.

They just want to sit there forgetting the obvious that driving is an interactive activity. We could save billions on road projects if we had more efficient drivers.

Jesse "The Brain" ha!

Bothers me. Many things around here are becoming bilingual. Got a UPS notice today that was half English, half Spanish. If I were living in a non English-speaking country, I doubt my notice would have any English written on it.

What about this sign? I saw this in Alaska at a gas station. It's good advise if you think about it.

Does having the sign in English and Spanish affect your ability to understand it? I guess being concerned about the safety of others is an out dated practice..it sure seems that way considering the fact that most drivers only use a turn signal within ten feet of a police officer which is ironic because most of them don't use them either!!!!!!

Hopefully one day we will all realize that we share this planet with a whole bunch of other people and they all have the same right to live safely as we do.

rant over...sorry about that.

Well said... Driving is a highly social activity, it's vital to the good of all to pay attention and be helpful to other drivers. So many folks just want to live in their little silos without having to interact with anyone else.

I agree that before getting a license every driver should have to demonstrate they know that if they are not passing or preparing to pass, they should not be in the leftmost lane.

The world would be a much better place if everyone just drove exactly like I do.

Seems a little much to save a post.

Actually the road is only 1 lane in either direction, but the median? has the sign there, along with white stripes. So it's not an issue of passing in the right lane or the left... more a matter of going around a car or truck that's making a left.

The thing that I disliked about the sign was that it's 1 sign, and it's not an "Easy" sign either like 35MPH either. If they're gonna go to bi-lingual signs... why not do it all over the place? A sign of things to come I guess??? On the other hand though, you do need to be able to read, write, and understand the English language in order to get a driver's license right? If that's the case, then why are bi-lingual signs necessary? Unless they are for all the ILLEGALS driving around with no licenses... common around here, and no insurance.
