Dodge 5500?

Beauty truck!! Wish a Ram 5500 was in my future. They seem to really hold there value around my area so they are hard to come by at a good price. F550 dime a dozen.
 
I doubt they can be worse than an F550. I had 2 550's from new and they spent 1 week a month in the shop. Sold them both one with 28K miles and the other with 32K miles.

The problem you will have with the Dodge (as always with any Dodge) is the transmissions. That Aisin is suppossed to be a Japanese Allison. That is not very encouraging since I have run several 5500 Chevy series trucks with Allisons and was not impressed with their performance when the truck is loaded to capacity. Long term reliability of the Aisin when running the truck loaded day in and day out is the issue I see being a problem.

And they never break down when empty and not towing something........
 
My bro's tranny in his new Dodge lasted 5,000 miles. They wanted to try to figure out what was wrong with it, like his truck was the gopher. Long battle, they put a new one in and figured it out on their own time.

A guy I sub for has one, seems bomber. I'm a blue oval guy, but they all have their ups and downs.
 
It seems everyone has weakness and strengths. I'm also a Ford guy, and I have had my fair share of issues also. But everyone running Dodge and Chevy and GMC also has their own set of problems they're facing as well. I think the secret is to get to know you're particular truck well enough to do most of the repairs on it. On the new trucks that may be prohibitive...
