I'm new to an area where this is common. Austrian pines especially. I have come across landowners with rows of pines, some heavily infected mixed in with others showing no symptoms and some in between. What have others used for DIPLODIA TREATMENT & TIMING? The extension office told me start treating in early June and continue with 3 treatments until candle growth is complete. Propiconazole being the suggested fungicide option.

Has anyone used propiconazole with pentra bark as a trunk spray, and if so.....results???

Thanks!

We use propiconazole, but I don't know about mixing with pentra bark.

The real question is, why would anyone want to save an Austrian Pine?

I find them to be poor specimens generally (I'm in zone 6,6b). They look like hell around here.

They provide a mature privacy screen and look decent as of now, 20 trees @ 15in dbh. The homeowner values them and starting from scratch with 20 new trees of a different species would be a shock to the landscape.

Start phasing out the pines so it's not a complete shock. Remove the worst ones first and replace with a more appropriate (few to no pests/diseases and suited to the site) plant .
For the trees remaining until the next phase of replacement: Prune out all diseased tissue and clean up all the dead needles and twigs below the trees. I haven't treated an Austrian pine and I am geographically close to easyphloem and agree, they look like hell and why would anyone want to save them. Once diplodia/sphaeropsis (or whatever it's called now) sets in the tree is usually dead in a few years (around here anyway). If you do treat, follow the label directions. Also assess the conditions the trees are growing in and make recommendations for improvements.
