Diffrence between RopeBoss and Buckingham RopePro

My coworker had the rope boss, and I still have my buckingham rope pro. The pockets blew out on both, but the buck has the stiffening slats, where his rope boss did not. He retired his after a year, but mine is still my main gear bag after almost 2 years, with more to go. There are plenty of other bags that will work well, and you may want to check out another thread on that. If your choice is solely between this two, however, then go buckingham.

Hey Zac,

The Buckingham copies of our RopeBoss bags have not kept up with the tweaks and improvements we've made. Here are some of the differences:
  • We added rivets to the front handle to improve its strength
  • Our front handle is created from one continuous piece of Nylon webbing that comes up from the daisy chain and sewn to maximize strength; theirs is stitched on top
  • Our front handle is made from Nylon webbing which is stronger than the PP webbing used on Buckingham's
  • We have 2 outside zipper pockets, they have 1
  • We eliminated air vent openings, as they seemed to be a weak spot
  • Back handle is created from one continuous piece of Nylon webbing that comes up from the bottom of the bag, much stronger than Buckingham's, which is simply stitched on top
  • Our back handle is riveted as well, for additional strength
  • All of our pockets are bar tacked (super stitched) in seams

Sean,
Thanks for the information on the rope boss updates. Why doesn't Sherrill use slats to help the bag stand? That was the deciding factor for me when I purchased mine.

Crimsonking,

Our bags actually do have rods in them, but they're quite flexible. The bags were originally made with much stuffer rods, but we experienced a number of them bust through the bag, so we went with less stiff ones. Seems like we went too far in that direction, so we'll look at going with stiffer rods for our next update.

Sounds like Ropeboss is on the right track to improving their gear. Have you improved the material quality of the bag as well Sean?

My MEC mesh gear bag has seen about 8 yrs of hard use and is yet to show any signs of wear. It is one tough ass bag! The Metolius haul bag has also proven itself in the field.

Treehumper,

The bag material hasn't really changed. It's a tiny bit better than the original bags, but definitely not enough that'd be noticeable or worth making a big deal over. The material itself has never been an issue, and seems to be in the sweet spot between durability and lightness.
