Different Work

Location
Chicago
On Saturday we started a project of hand (spot) spraying Gypsy Moth eggs in 271 Oaks in a park. We used 3 lifts 4 climbers and the crane ( for putting climbers in the trees) plus 5 ground man. The Kubota helped with the plywood.

Nice Kubota, Tod. What do you use the backhoe attatchment for?? Do you do planting or do you have a treework use for it?

When you move long logs with the 520, do you use forks or a grapple or something else?

Are those turf tires on it or extreme wear on tractor tires?

What's up with those double rims...it looks like rims bolted on to the inner wheel?

And as long as I'm talking about KTS equipment, why do you like the mid mount instead of rear mount crane?

Thanks for your feedback.

Where are you at tod ?, here in the central to eastern part of wisconsin they have generally given up treating gypsy, we are in a quaratine zone.

Yeah what did you spray on them a de-activated oil, or something of the like ?

Other question I have, where would I find out when it's too late to spray? This is something that should be applied during tree dormancy, right?

love
nick

I think it depends on type of spraying, and where, in wisconsin may or june I have heard would be the best time, but again it depends on the catepillars emerging. In virginia its april or may.

Cory, The kubota rocks, its a little big though.10,000lbs. We used to do b and b plantings but gave that up a few tears ago. Now its just counter wieght. For material we use either a rake with a grapple or a bucket grapple. We mounted our crane behind the cab because it is more stable when working 360 degrees plus if it were rear mounted it would need a tandam axle limiting mobility. Nick, we were spraying a prouduct called Golden Oil? It needs to be directly applied to the egg mass. It is supposed to suffucate them. We will see. Some of the trees had hundreds of egg mass on them.

Those look like two piece rims to me. The two halves bolt together and used just like a one piece rim. Of course they need a tube.
