Deerfly patch

Is that a patch with a special pheromone or something?

I talked with Jeff Jepson last summer and he said that when the deer flies came out, his crew would have to stop working sometimes. They were so thick and bothersome that it would effect the safety of the jobsite. Jeff is no pansy either. On canoe trips a smouldering, cheap cigar keeps the deer flies and black flies at bay.

Tom, from what I understand pheromones are short lived.
They once said that doe in heat (doe urine) buck lure contained pheromones but the truth is unless it is being constantly produced it doesn't last and soon as the bottle is opened the scent would be gone.
I think they just use the creatures habit for these patches.

I was in the bucket the other day dropping a large limb when one the little SOB's hit me in the back of the neck and I almost dropped the saw trying to get rid of it.
Kevin, if you want to put on some deer fly attractant and hang around our crew for a while you're more than welcome /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That may have been one of mine, I'm using the catch and release method,... keeping up my public image /forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif.
I catch them up north on the back of my hat and relocate them east of the Sault under the power lines.

One of my ladyfriend's uncles had been out ATVing for a day or two and he showed me the trick he used...

He took two rolls of fly paper and wrapped them around his ball cap. Both strips were covered in the little devils, he told me there were 53 or something like that. I told him he needed more to do if he could count the number of bugs he caught on his hat.

Interesting idea though....
