I got the 7-day boot!
Can anyone go check AS for me? I got banned for seven days for mentioning this and other tree sites. I checked the guidelines immediately before doing so and it said you just can't put links.
Just wondering if there are 2 copies of the guidelines on the site. One that I use and one that Darin uses.

Just turn off cookies to the site. You won't be able to post, but so what? Or you can do what I do as a matter of course. Leave cookies enabled for arboristite.com but not for arborist.lawnsite.com so you can drop in for a moment and not get your session-keeping all out of wack.

Awesome! It seemed a silly thread for them to put it in.
Dan mentioned that if they change the stupid rule, maybe I'll shut up about it. He's right, I do whine about it a lot. I push the limits. I knew I was pushing it when I went and reposted after darin erased the post where I put the links in to these other sites, but I read the rules and reallllly thought I was in the right when I reposted only mentioning the sites.
I just don't get it. It seems like they (darin and mrsarboristsite) think it's worth the effort to try to become the only source for online arboristing information. It seems they fear that people will leave and never come back. If they create a place where people want to be, they will always come back. That mentality works here, doesn't it!
As many of you know, I peruse discussion forums all over about tree care, rec climbing, rock climbing, computer stuff, sailing/riggin, physics, and financial things. Great places to learn! I just don't get what darin sees that no one else sees.
I can't think of how many times I've gone in to REI and said, "I'm looking for..." If they don't have it or don't get, the response is often, "You know what, go down this road, go to this store...they have all sorts of stuff and they might have what you're looking for." I've even had stores call up competitors and ask for me.
REI and all these stores are confident that if they provide a good service, people will always come back. Darin, in my opinion, is not confident in what he's providing. He is acting scared and jealous.
Oh, and his reply: "we want people to be able to find information with out having to go all over the internet"....It's not like I have to get up and walk down to the library to buy the book you're talking about. He makes it sound like it's a convenience for us. That's just silly.
The internet is a great learning tool because everything is just a few clicks away. Information flows like.....like something that flows a lot. (Insert funny analogy here) Darin is stifling. He should be suspended for 7 days.

i find conflict in share openly and freely with restriction. i would think that especially in safety and being a tree hugger and not thugger should pass by any of those paper borders anyway. But, of course banning peoples; gives more tree topics too???
i guess Darin has his costs; but he is not the one that has paid the biggest cost, to the BeaST (Blood, Sweat & Tears) for the jewels presented; that folks come to share from the community pool of.

It's not you, Nick, but Darin that "doesn't get it". The entire purpose of the internet is the free exchange of ideas and information... like sap flowing in the spring (how's that?).
Some people (Darin, Peter Jennings) think that by holding tight they'll have more of what they desire. But information and ideas are like tiny grains of sand (how's that one?) - the tighter you hold on, the less you have.
