creatine

The powdered creatine is absorbed quicker, so becomes available by the body to use sooner than the tablets.

I'd avoid creatine as it has been shown to cause damage to the liver and kidneys when taken in excessive amounts, your body produces it naturally anyway.

I use to take years ago, I reckon the commercial sale of creatine is a con

Beer has also been shown to damage liver and kidneys yet hmmm....

Any excess is pissed away. A little can't hurt. You do need to drink a lot of water with it. The mass gained imho is just through water weight gain. You see it in the lads who take too much creatine. They have that puffy bloated looking muscle.

I think a little is good if you train hard daily as it speeds recovery time allowing you to more effectively train and climb trees.

If I had limited re$ources, I would say put the money into a good protein supplement 1st.

Do you have any links to these studies?

How can you take too much if the excess is pissed away?

I also do not believe Creatine is involved in muscle recovery.

I heard about these cases recently on a radio program on athletes using creatine.

Here is a good analysis of creatine and how it works;-

CREATINE INFORMATION

This is the best report on creatine I have found.

Its a good read but " Anecdotal reports " don't mean much to me, and 2 reported cases of Renal dysfunction (out of 67 reference sources) also does not carry much weight when you consider the product is taken by thousands everyday.

Since some people are lactose intolerant should we stop selling milk?

As with anything, everyone is different. A few months back I started to take Phosphagen Elite by EAS. It gave me a nasty head ache every time I took it. So after 3x I stopped

taking it.

On another message board I know of someone said it made his hair fall out, so I guess that is another "anecdotal" side effect.

It is tough trying to decipher some of this stuff since the whole "supplement" market is unregulated. Who would of thought Icy Hot could Kill. http://gothamist.com/2007/06/09/staten_island_r.php

When I was training for basketball I thought that being big might be cool. I took creatine for a while and hit the gym. I had the most awful bowel movements ever! There is no way I am going to believe that creatine can do anything positive for your body whatsoever. My teamates who got into the creatine and powdered food culture evolved into ugly looking creatures that couldnt shoot a basketball or run down the court. They got really good at walking around the gym panting at their puffed up reflections in the mirror. I believe Eat like a monkey, climb like a monkey.

Funny you should say that, I went on a tree sourced diet a few years back to see if it would improve my climbing - only eat food from trees and shrubs - Brazil nuts, bananas, oranges, apples, almonds, pecans, coconuts, macademias, hazelnuts, peaches, nectarines, tangerines, satsumas, clementine, grapes(wine), raspberries, blackcurrants, honey etc

Lost pounds in weeks, felt lighter but missed my pasta, bread and meat too much.

Great, but monkeys don't work in trees, they just climb and fling poo from time to time.

Creatine can be a good tool if used properly. Sounds like your basketball buds quit their cardio as well. Some can't deal with it stomach wise.

I have never had a problem with it. It certainly increases mass, but I am not sure if it isn't simple water weight. It definitely speeds recovery time, but I mean recovery time in INTENSE workouts. Not a session in the gym, but rather lifting heavy and heavy cardio. Gosta drink lots of water though.

Too expensive for me to justify now.

From left to right - MB(no hardhat), Bullman(hardhat-Uk regs), Nathan(no hardhat, great eye protection though), Ed(hardhat-uk regs)and Stumper(no hardhat and freeclimbing!).

Ok ok cityclimber, I'm sorry I take it back, ok? but the chimp on the far left really does look like MB, you can't deny it.

or can you?

I worked with a guy taking creatine and by noon he was sweating and smelled like rotten eggs. Just a lil info some of the creatine things are addictive to the piont that you have to ween yourself off them to actually not be pissy. So becarefull on the type of creatine.
Remeber this muscle is heavier so bulking up can be more than you want, you will be hauling more wieght up in the tree.
For me I am on an EAS system diet and energy drinks to keep going. I also use them to help mend out the days work feed nutrients back into me when chilling after the day.
