Crap gear!

Agreed on the smaller caritool. Also, I've found they do better at the back of saddle than near the hips but that may be a personal thing.

Highball was garbage, anything I've ever got branded sherrill really, I will give credit for the big shot though...live and learn and now I only shop at treestuff. Any of the cheap cubes blow out quick, weavers newer black/orange ones are good though at a fair price.

Cheap cubes sure, you get what you pay for. But doesn't the Sherrill cube cost like 65 bucks or something?

That's why I brought up the idea of an aluminum Caritool a few years ago. Seems like Petzl could clean up if they wanted to. They better get on it quick, cuz when that patent's up I'm gonna mass produce those babies. Tick tock, Petzl. Tick. Tock.
I've been using paddle 'biners for years as caritools. Yeah, they sometimes lay flat against your hips (the way side dee rings do), but it's not as bad as you might think. I always seem to find them without looking, and while preserving economy of motion. The only gripe I have about them is the nose of the 'biner has a deep groove in it that accepts the pin in the gate. This groove would tend to snag the yarns of tenex slings when clipped on my hip. So, I used the bench grinder to grind down the "hook" of metal on the side of the groove closest to the 'biner opening. Now, I have a bomber caritool that's lasted for years and function is smooth like a baby's bottom.

GrowTech handsnips from treestuff. You get what you pay for, but for the same price as AM leonard snips that lasted me a long time (still have them 6 years runnin') they were BS. the tip of the blade blew off one day when pruning Leyland Cypresses. Come on now, on a Leyland??

diggin' this thread, has already knocked on purchase off my "wish list"

So far I haven't really had any complete POS' s. Between the Treebuzz forum and Treestuff just correcting a questionable choice, so far so good. I remember to this day my first big purchase. Researched a bunch of stuff on here through threads figured out what I wanted, all great stuff from what you guys were saying about them. I went online to Treestuff and ordered eveything, as I was finishing I realized I forgot to think about a rope bag. I quickly picked a cheap bag thinking it is only a bag. When my stuff came 2 days later everything was there but my bag, they had sent me the wrong one. What they sent was much nicer and more expensive, when I called them to let them know all they said was, "We sent the right bag, you just chose the wrong bag". When I inquired further they explained that they saw my order, noticed it was my first major purchase and that everything was top quality, except the bag. There was no way they were going to send me an inferior bag for all that nice stuff. Needless to say there was no up charge, they just upgraded me to the bag I should have ordered if I had done any research on rope bags. Many thanks to both Treebuzz and Treestuff for keeping a new guy on the right path.

Those friggin green lazer pointers. Nobody can see them in daylight unless you're part Owl. And the customers looking for a speck of green light on a green tree. WTF invented that? Plus is costs several fingers and toes to buy them. I've had one for 15 years and used it twice. Waste of cash IMHO. Trying to think what else is in my box of tree stuff used like 2 times. Oh those little rubber thingies that you put on your biners so they stay put. Stretch once and discard!! Crap. I have 3 pieces of gear from day one. Biner for the saw lanyard to the saw, metal dolly from home depot for logs(1 flat tire and some rewelding), and MS361. Caritools, waste of money. Locks me onto branches I cant get to because the are behind me. Took them off after a day. I have 2lg 2 sm. They are holding......., well nothing really.

I actually love my green laser pointer but it's not one you'll find on the arb websites. Supposedly 50mw but I doubt that. Rechargeable batteries and the thing will light up a highway sign from about a mile away. Works well for pointing out limbs to clients.

Yup, I use my laser pointer a lot too. I like it. I bought it on ebay for way less than the arb suppliers charge. Just found one that looks the same and has the same listed specs. It was a gamble, but cheap enough to be worth a shot - no regrets.

Weaver throw ball - ring broke loose from the bag on Day 2!

To be fair, it got a little hung up and I had to yank on it, some...BUT, I've yanked pretty hard on my Sherrill throw ball and never had the ring rip out the stitching.

Zing it... no bueno

Sterling FL prussic- Not enough cordage to tie a proper knot? Lame

TM suspenders- do the job, but $100 for some webbing?

Jet Sled- Lame

That's it for now. I'm sure I'll think of more:-)
