Crane Op Screw Up

So the load cell should have told him what kind of tension he had on it if it were operating properly. So why was it over there tension? I don't understand did it malfunction? Have you had any close calls like this before? I have never done crane work and would unless the operator and I had along safety talk that I understood. Then I would have no problem with it. Its definitely efficient. Some where on you tube I ran into a video where they were taking a HUGE Redwood down in a tight neighborhood. The climber was using 3120 the entire time. Cool video any. But that was also a huge crane. I would suggest to your boss that he get that load cell calibrated. Maybe he would do that. I'm glad that the bar and chain were the only thing damaged. But I would think twice about using that crane again with that load cell. Just my 2 cent's I can't stand the idea of a climber getting hurt and I do plenty of dumb things and get lucky!!

TJG, I like your advise. This crane op sounds like he needs some data driven decision making.

From what I know from the OP, this crane doesn't have a load cell or LIM.

That said, I don't know anything about cranes.
