crane oak reduction

Those last pick's were awesome.

Your thread title with the word "reduction" would indicate a trim job in my parts, but it appeared to be a bit more than a trim.

Or was it?

it was a heavy reduction. unfortunately i didnt get any photos of the overall job. basically that tree formed part of a very old avenue of oaks, all 300+ years. out of about probably 50 trees this was the only one that hadnt had its top snapped out in the winds over the years. As a result it was taking the full brunt of any winds that came and was starting to show significant movement in the root plate....hence the decision to reduce to preserve. i know its frowned upon your side of the pond but is a common treatment for mature oaks in this country....I was just the contract climber on this job so had no say in the job specification, however im satisfied that they made a good call.

Major reduction! About how much foliage, percentage-wise, came out of the tree?

Was there anything done to try to stabilize the moving root plate?

What kind of Oak is it?

wow.

Anything being done below ground (fertilizers, soil ammendments, etc.) to compensate for the crown reduction and loss of food producers?

I've only seen a couple of English Oaks, one I believe at the Ohio TCC a couple of years ago. I had no idea they could get that large!

they can top 100ft....this one was a little over 80ft i'd say, they carry very big wood though.
im not sure what the groundkeepers are doing if anything.
