I saw a broken boom today, not mine! A sign company working with all 101' of their 26 ton Manitex boom truck out, and very near the max capacity, had it fold about halfway down. It took out the power lines but NO injuries. Wind loading is the stated culprit. I bs'd with the operator a bit, and he said it was within the load chart, but the large sign got away from them and tweaked the boom...... and that was all she wrote.
Interesting to see how thin those boom sections are when being cut up with a torch, a sobering sight! They got LOTS of local "publicity", and will be getting a large bill from the utility (loss of service) but are damn lucky no one got hurt. Sorry no pictures, I left my camera at home!
