Craigslist

This is sort of tree related but it also doesn't have to do with actual tree work so hopefully it's ok that it is posted here.

Has anyone tried selling gear on craigslist? When I went to work down south, I ended up buying all brand new climbing gear so I wouldn'g have to lug my stuff down on the plane, this was probably in January. While I was their I spent more time in machines than in trees, this gear was used maybe a handful of times and maybe another 5 times for rec climbs. I am home now and the extra stuff sits, not getting used so I posted on craigslist.

I got an email today saying that my prices are too high and he can get the same stuff elsewhere for the same price or better, he was just at REI last weekend and my prices are just too high. Wait...REI!? REI!!!!?? Are you kidding me!? What the hell is wrong with people? Yea, comparing a $250 saddle to a $50 rock climbing harness it sure would seem like my prices are high. I am always amazed at the level of stupidity.

Why not post on treebay? We know what the stuff is and what it's worth.

Craigslist is a hard nut to crack. I often have a hard time selling stuff and I'm always surprised to see what people consider a deal vs. a ripoff. I used to be into it but I've wasted way too much time dealing with crazies and flakes.

Craigslist is a haven for low-ballers and tire-kickers. If you're firm on your price, just say that in your ad, and delete anybody who wants to try to lowball.

I've bought lots of stuff from ads on craigslist. Next thing I try to sell there though, will be the first. I wouldn't waste the time to write and upload an ad.
