Cover for amsteel

I put together a spider leg balancer line using 1/4 inch Amsteel. I was concerned that my prussik would slip using Amsteel, so I covered the prussik eye with the cover from some 11.7 kernmantle climbing rope. I'm hoping it gives it decent grip on my rigging line. I did a locking brummel splice for the prussik eye.

Did I really need to do that? Anybody have experience using Amsteel with a prussik knot? (Note the Packers colors on the whipping).

Cool idea. I’ve built my own Tree Motion bridge cordage on the same principle: mix and match cover and core materials to get the qualities and performance I’m looking for.

The key to success besides meeting your overall cordage strength and performance requirements is to get good fit and core/cover balance.

The Prusik in Amsteel by itself tends to get distorted and wants to bind. The baggy cover will help with this, plus the smaller core will make it grab nicely.

Love for the Pack! i just made a spider leg with 3/8 Tenex Tec and it grabs great. I would guess with the size of you will be able to wrap it enough times for it to grab nicely. Interested to see how the cover works or if it is even necessary given that there is very little movement or heat for this application. Best of luck.
