Courant Kalimba

Kalimba is the slim 16 strand right? something about that does have a certain appeal, but I would like to be able to get a short hank for a lanyard.
It's actually an 11.9mm double braid. I've been climbing on it for the past few months and quickly fell in love with it, but it's not cheap.

I so wanted to hate their ropes but I love them. The only rope I can say I loved that much was cougar puke until they killed the USA version some years ago. I almost feel like Xstatic or maybe Yale Focus is similar but not quire as good. One complaint is it pics really easily. Komora for MRS is the cats meow

Are you just looking for a rope out there that is possibly better than Kalimba?
I don't think there is. I agree there should be a better rope than Kalimba, because Kalimba should be at least a 32 braid, and less flattening. Drenaline is most similar in construction, but is a bungee cord, and flattens worse than almost any rope on the market, except Scandere.
The thing I miss greatly about Drenaline, is the 32 braid cover.
32 or better yet, the cover of the Beal Access, provide better grip than 24 or less braids.

Kalimba is not durable, it also has a tad too much elongation for me. But it sure is pretty, knots well and has a nice splice. A great MRS rope if you dig that kind of gig. Oh yes runs hitches well and runners. Too many other ropes I prefer.

For those that have used Kalimba, what's the closest rope you've found to it that isn't Kalimba?
Kalimba is the only rope I’ve found that works MRS and SRS with zero adjustments to my Akimbo. Awesome for crane work and all around for that reason alone. Seems to be rugged too.

How does that compare to Tachyon?
I was a Tachyon guy since it came out until I tried Kalimba a few years back. I would say Kalimba doesn’t seem to gain as much increased diameter or smoother feels as it wears, it has a bit less elongation %.

That said, I have mainly only used Kalimba with the Akimbo. I used Tachyon with everything under the Sun for quite some time. Your results may vary depending on your choice of belay device.

Users be aware that Courant issued a recall on the former factory splice on this rope. Check online for “Courant Kalimba splice recall” and see when the date was. I think they found the potential issue ahead of any accidents and proactively issued the recall and re-engineered the splice with a ‘z’ type bar tack. Anything post recall is good to go.

Not a 32 strand. It’s a 24 Samson Silver Ivy and I really like it. On sale now so I’m probably going to buy another to replace the hyperclimb.
Average Tensile: 6,500 lbs
WLL: 650 lbs.
Weight: 6.5 lbs per 100'
Elongation: 1.3% at 540 lbs.

My dude! Sounds like you're real dialed in again.
I'm back at it for sure. I am retracing my learning with a specific goal in mind. I am basically sticking to MRS with the type of work I'm doing and am really giving the hitch based climbing a chance to shine. I'm learning how to play around with those combo's rather than just being frustrated and jumping to a mechanical. It's fun. Learning all the processes I skipped in the beginning during the self taught period. Working with some guys who are students of MRS is really a cool experience. Sometimes I'll work up the tree to my anchor on SRS and then finish the work moving. It's fun. I'm finally relaxing enough to enjoy the climbing and the movement in the tree. The pressure to perform is slowly subsiding. It was really always in my own head anyway. Shortening a hitch cord by 1/2" actually makes a huge difference. Who'd have thunk it......... I thought not having sewn or spliced eyes was just cheap. It's so not. LOL. Thanks for noticing.
