Cottoning On

Populus deltoides? A little outside it's home range... but apparently thriving. What's the story? Showing how it's done!

thankyou John :)

I am hoping a treebuzzer is going to answer that for us (sorry forgot the photos)
it isn't my realm as with the recent oak so I instagramed the pics to several USA arb crew to get two replies - either deltoides or started with a N? small screen wasn't so good so on the big screen at home we should have a answer
sorry folks no prizes (but that sound is a waffle iron warming up) ;)

story is that in the late 1800's in Adelaide it was fashionable to import overseas specimen trees to plant out in the well to do suburbs as a status of how well to do and in the know you were.
this has resulted in the old wealthy suburbs of todays Adelaide being a virtual botanic garden by de facto combined with our Mediterranean climate allowing for a wide range of trees to adapt.
similar to an area in the welsh coast of England according to a Uk arborist who was working over here.
so fast forward 140 odd years and this is why I am so attached to this city's work potential with a buffet of different trees on offer :sorprendido3:
this lady was on a creek line bank with plenty of water - it hissed water out on the felling cut like a shook up can of pop being cracked .
irony not being lost on me that the first Cottonwood removal that I climb is back here at home :D

Showing the skills Aussie style!!
thankyou Steve,
twas a beautiful tree and in some small way a shame to have to remove it as far as I could tell perfectly healthy with no rot or dieback,
but nothing lived in it, not a spider or ant or gecko - like nothing and coming from Eucs which are practically infested with all kinds of critters it was a little desert just barren of life.
so in another way no loss to the local environment .
but yeah I did have some fun :D

Right on Ben very nice. Looked like some thick undergrowth! Sweet mid point rigging.
Hey Levi - thank you :)

I may have been taking some notes from a few enterprising Brothers in the past wee while and putting them into practice
(checks in the mail ) ;)

Strangely familiar. Nice job, sorted that mess right out!

Errhmm , imitation is the most sincere form of flattery ?
and I have made mention of your mid point rigging in the past so....

thank you Ray
but the smell
omg
:D
