Contestant's choice.

Contestant\'s choice.

7.2.2 Secured Footlock - "Contestants may use the installed line provided for the event or replace the line with an approved climbing line of the contestant's choice".

My choice is to use a climbing line set in a pulley that is attached to a pulley with a static figure eight knot. This method makes certain that both lines are secure when footlock rope climbing. Grab either line with your feet and you get a lift. No running of the rope bewteen your feet. A firm bite.

Anchor the single line at the base of the tree and climb the static double line in the pulley.

Re: Contestant\'s choice.

nice idea, do you then take a working line up with you? or what line do you work off of once you enter the tree?

Re: Contestant\'s choice.

Robert, I never thought of that. Just tie the top together!

Derrick, I think he is talking specifically about competitions, where you'd be backed up anyways, then you could just switch over to whatever lowering device you'd like.

At work I don't think I'd tie the top together. It'd slow me down a bit to have to untie it when I got up there.

I thought i read that some guys leave there access line in as a potential rescue line. Yes it takes a lot of rope but it makes for an easier ascent, and if it is simply used for ascent then it can be left with the knot even when wrapped. I just thought it was a great idea instead of using a butterfly in the middle or "circus bowline"
