Had our first round of actual frost. Normal is late October to mid November. Went to the heat island today and fucken saw a paper birch with some green leaves on the terminals.
I wonder if the trees are skipping a growth ring this year.
Back in 53’/54’ it was a warm balmy winter with a sudden cold snap down into the single digits. Round here there are whole patches of forest which were only 20’ tall back then, even age post clear cut. They all have doglegs at the same height and growth year. Ripping the logs will tell many tales.
