Components of a Self-Advancing Knee Ascender (SAKA)

Richard, with all your experience using different ascenders for SAKA builds, how did the DMM Anthron Bloquer perform? I think I saw Walter using one at the Rendezvous but didn't get a chance to ask him about it.

It appears Richard may have pulled the video that instructs how to build the SAKA and the materials needed down from YouTube. Too bad, if true.

Tim I built one from the video awhile ago and it is a great design. I've dealt with Rich before on his other products and they are all great. Just get one from him and you won't be sorry. If it's just not for you, post it on Treebay and it will be quickly snapped up.

Just got one recently, from Richard. Very nice. Waiting for a break in the weather to get out and try it out. The CT foot ascender came this week, harness suspenders modified for rope walking setup... I'm ready for a test run. I'd just prefer that it was above freezing when I do it.

@Hutch I like the simplicity, and low weight of your kit.

Where and what are you tending this with? My diy is similar and I'm tending from a bungy over the shoulder (which also has a static tend to my WR). I am finding my petzl croll ascender is getting pulled into my bridge a lot no matter if I tend from inside or outside my bridge, though inside is best. I can't really shorthen the foot loop to ascender distance as I'd then start hitting it with my foot ascender. Courious as to how you're going with yours.

The Saka that YoYo man made for me still works awesome. The design is very efficient. After I dialed in the ideal length of my bridge, the length of bungee and connection point to chest harness; it perfectly uptakes my entire stride without running into any issues at all. Just throwing it out there.

Well, plus he fact that you are a great climber. But I agree, when you get it dialed in for what tools you are using, it is very very efficient.

The cord attached above the small Kong ascender is the bungee part. I just clip that and my RW set-up into a small carabiner on a neck lanyard. Runs real smooth. Nice small/medium steps and hands above the system. Waiting on a rope runner. That's gonna be the game changer...

@Hutch thanks, nice to know how others are dialing in similar kit. I've got a neck lanyard made up so I'll give it a go.

I think it's the speed that's causing a bit of technique to go :loco: With a ct foot ascender there's no kickout

@yoyoman @MikePowers321 and others, thanks so much for sharing your ideas, skills and options. Much appreciated by this new'ish rec climber.

Am going to watch the Auckland TCC this weekend and am curious if anyone will have SAKA type ascenders with their RWs.
