Compact Bulldog Bone

You're gonna dig the bone Rico. It's compact, bomproof, easy on and off, and it functions really well. Mines best on the km Max but I haven't tried the htp. They're such similar lines that I'll bet it'll be great.
I've had the adjustable bone for about a year now and haven't touched my runner since. It's that good

Every device I have used heats up to some extent, and I’m sure the Bone is no different. I don’t do much bombing out of trees these days, so we will leave that to the youngsters. It’s high time we got a BDB up in some Reds!

I will be in touch tonight with the disclaimer form and a paypal payment. Thanks for all your help, and I am really looking forward to flying the BDB!

Ahhh, Rico is loving the gear : )

I have a feeling you'll be wearing a Spaceman Protos Lid by the end of next year.

.

All the shiny new gear has brought some drastic changes to my climbing style and techniques in the last 2 years, and its all been for the better. My climbing life has become so much easier physically that I feel like I could realistically continue wreaking trees for another 10-15 years, if the gawds are willing.

A Protos helmet definitely ain't in my future. I actually bought a Kask Super Plasma and tried wearing it, but hated it. After a few months I gave up on it, and drove over it with the skidder. Fuck that thing!

My views on PPE remains the same. I continue to believe that my first and most important line of defense is the skill level of myself and those I work with. I don't wear a climbing helmet, or ear/eye protection because they disconnect me from my work environment. Its a way of thinking that I was taught at a young age after a fairly serious injury. I have lived and breathed it ever since, and it has keep me safe for a very long time.

Does it require some break in time? I tried it on vortex, ivy, cougar and xtc and had to use substantial force compress the ‘bird’ to get it to release for me. It’s fine for moving around the tree but for descent in the canopy, I haven’t found its sweet spot. I have the bollard fully open, too. Thanks for any insight/advice.
I never fussed around with my bollards.. my adjustable bone seems great right now on any line fatter than 11.7 , just started slipping on xstatic recently for me. The yales flatten out and slip after some up and downs over same section. The physics of the bone can seem counter intuitive with release point and pressure needed.. like may be changing to wide open caused the thing to bite harder on line , requiring you to apply additional force to descend..just a couple off the quick thoughts that may or may not help. Definetly stick it out for a few climbs and break it in. Goo luck!

Got my new adjustable BDB! What a beautifully built, bomb proof tool. I gave it a quick go with the 11mm HTP, and it’s a no go. Even with the bollard adjusted all the way it is slipping, and it will not stop me if I am repelling with any speed whatsoever. Bummer.

Try flipping the spine of the device around (the bit with the hole for a tending attachment) to create a bit more friction, like the baby bump mod for the rope runner. It helped me run on some new small diameter rope that was really slick.

Thanks rockettree. I will give that a try. I really like the HTP and was hoping it would work with the BDB.

It's so sad. My go to line was cougar puke. It ran perfectly on every mechanical I had. Just a great rope for any climbing application. To me it had the perfect combination of static and bounce. BDB loved it, RR loved it, zigzag loved it, akimbo squished the hell out of it, not so bueno..... With all the choices out there I find it very difficult to fina a single rope perfect for everything.

I was pretty bummed that the BDB didn’t seem to be working very well on the 11 mm HTP. I have a couple nice removals later this week, and was really looking forward to stroking the Bone.

I said fuck it this morning, headed out in the backyard and set a rope in a Fir at about 120 ft. Before hooking up the Bone I cleaned up any residual oils/chemicals from manufacturing that might be contributing to the problem, and headed on up.

First run I went up about halfway then repelled. Damn that was promising. Made about 8-10 runs up to 120 ft, progressively getting more agressive on both ascent and my descent, and making adjustments to the bollard. I actually ended up backing the bollard adjustment out a little, and found the sweet spot of frictionless ascent and zero creep on descent.

Smooth, effortless, controlled, bullet proof, and runs on a variety of ropes. It checks all those boxes, and then some. A personal thanks to Gordon for gracing us with such an amazing tool, and making me the coolest kid on the block!
