CMI Twin EXPDT ascender SRT/RW?

Do you like this over the ascendtree? I have lots of experience with the petzl, but the CMI looks slick! Rangerdanger raves about it. Lots of features, single handle seems like an ergonomic advantage. Primary use will be above my RW for a frog walker. But Im sure DRT ascent is not out of the question.

BUT!!!! I saw kevin is using a petzl, and I assume he could use whatever he wants, so maybe the petzl has advantages. Kevin????? Bueller? Bueller? I know the petzl works, just like trying new things, and the CMI is cheaper!

I got the ascenttree at a comp, didnt pick it out, didn't know what to do with it for the longest time. wouldn't have bought it if I hadn't won it. I Like it better than the single handled ascenders for long hikes. Although the Kong futura is sweet for a lot of things cause its so small. I trashed mine trying to make it better, but now I have nothing.

The CMI was inspired by Treemachine's ascender. Look that one up on arboristsite. Tree Machine wasn't really thrilled with the CMI's version and felt they missed a few key points.

I have the twin - use it as the upper ascender above the RW. it is quite solid, but it weighs a lot more than a single handled petzl and a LOT more than the kong futura (or petzl basic), so unless you are going to use it for doubled ascent quite a bit, I don't think it is worth the extra money and weight on the saddle when not in use. Spend more and get a Uni for more options or spend half as much and get a single handled ascender.
I played around using the twin for a working device - it felt safe to be on, but i couldn't handle having to unweight the cams so that I could descend. I'm too used to being able to let a little line out at a time. And then along came Rope Wrench..

So Kevin, you broke your fav by trying to make it better? That's awesome and sounds about right. Did you say you are going sans-handled ascender now? Due to events that are not so noble as tinkering, I too have found myself without an upper ascender. Seeing as my wife is about to pop with child, I don't have the funds to replace...so, been climbing near a month without. I think I'm actually faster. Have more callouses on my hands and my arms have gotten bigger, i.e., it's not as cush without...but I think I like it.

Actually thought of getting a Petzl mini-traxion and putting together the rope rocket/rope walker system

Oh, and to make this relavent, the ascender I had was the double expedition. Nice to have two handles, especially if you are coming straight from footlocking (similar, somewhat). The $110 price tag doesn't make a lot of sense though. Just an extra handle for $50 more bucks.
