CMI foot ascender NEW!

Set the strap so that the tail runs down the inside, then turn it up wards and trap it under the ankle strap. I can add photo if required.

(thanks to Laz2 for showing me that a coupel of weeks ago it has been annoying me for some time.)
 
Not the easiest thing to photograph but this should do, I took a few but this is the best angle I think.

That's a great solution!

On mine I stitched the webbing together just below the Pantin. This means that if the P were used on a different size boot it would need to be tweaked again.

Hey guys! I received both the right and left CMI foot ascenders! I like them alot. I have only used them 5 or 6 times now and I find new ways to enjoy them more. What I really like is footlocking method with these. You will never miss a stride. They are a good tool to have in the bag for certain situations. Right now, I am using them to find those situations besides the obvious (ascending).

Yes and no. They would set closley together, but not even to feel right. --But not bad.

For the ascent I tried this: I used 2 Petzl ascenders and my two CMI foot ascenders. I was able to walk up the lines but I needed something to keep my torso closer to the rope.

I also used my Kong dual ascender and the CMI F. Ascenders. Together it was a good combo. I could ascend fast with this.

When it came time to hip-thrust while on the DRT it was nice to be able to switch to either the right or left foot.

Here is a way I experimented with them a couple of times. Check the attachment. With the illustration shown you can have two static lines with one rope.

Jamin...so, in order to use both foot ascenders you have to setup a floating false crotch, right?

I can see how this works but I would rather just use a Tree Frog system which is a bit simpler.
 
Last week I had a chance to look at the tool when I visited the ON ROPE store in Chattanooga.

The CMI is quite big and sticks out on my boot. The Pantin is nice and compact. I am sure that the CMI would snag on things if it was on in the tree. The straps are nice and use spring buckles. I put on a spring buckle for the ankle strap on my Pantin so that isn't an issue.

When I tried to flip open the cam catch with my left toe it wasn't very easy. In time I think it could be mastered though.

For now, I think the Pantin is a better solution for me. I rarely have it kick off the rope anyway.
 
hey tom, you think the pantin is better? i used the pantin before and honestly it was terrible, it looks cheap and the foot strap constantly came loose, i was pumped when you mentioned a more beefy cmi strap and foot ascender all together, the pantin seems like it always kicks off on me to a point that i just dont use one, i just hand over hand now or body thrust.

i was thinking about picking on up for srt because of the 100 percent response you get instead of the 50 you usually get using drt, do you suggest the pantin even though it comes with the junky straps or do you think the cmi would be up for the job, weight is no option here, what do you suggest sir
 
The straps are fine but they need some modifications...I have pics posted somewhere in a thread. I'll repost if needed.

The CMI is HUGE and sticks way out from the side of my foot. It would catch on things when I climbed around in the tree. I never catch anything on the Pantin.

If the P kicks out you need to change your foot style. I like dropping my toe just a tiny bit when I stand. That keeps the rope back in the fold away from the cam.

You can always clip a biner in the P to hold the cam in place. I have never done that and I got mine the first weeke they were on the market.
 
So far I haven't had a problem with the CMI ascender snagging on stuff when moving around the tree. Sometimes though if you leave the cam in the open position the rope will find its way into the slot when you're not using but if you just leave the cam closed it isn't a problem.
 
The adjustment straps on the CMI are certainly better. However, if the Pantin works well for you now, I would say to stick with it. It's lighter and more streamlined than the CMI. If you find the Pantin frustrating then it might be worth giving the CMI a shot.
 
Yeah, having the pantine slip off the rope was a real pain for me at first too, till I learned to raise my foot in lead with the rope, and that solved that. The strap? I sewed it, and that fixed that.

Now, I like the feature of being about to disenguage the pantine without having to reach down to do it. Getting a leg-lock over a limb is much easier without the rope being in the thing. And re-enguaging the rope is as simple as kicking it out. Don't need to reach down to do either. And both are nice features. Come to find out it was designed that way.

Just took a little while to learn it.
