climbing gloves

As a new comer to the buzz forum, I'm not sure whether this has been previously covered. I am an ardent fan of Sherrills Ugly Gloves for their superb grip in all weathers, moulding and stretch fit and disposable cost, and their inability of the rubber layer to 'peel' and consequently get sucked into the climbing knot, in my case, a short 3 wrap 2 lay VT.
Does anyone have any alternatives to this glove that I might try that have similar characteristics and don't burn and feather the rubber medium like the Ugly Gloves? They are perfect in every way apart from the fact they are only ro be found in he USA seemingly!! No offense to the Tobes (Sherrill) but I'm fairly certain he could do without menial glove based orders across continents such as mine!!!!! /forum/images/graemlins/smilie_winki.gif

stephen, I know the appeal of the ugly gloves, they grip great on the rope. The only problem for me with those gloves is that they are a little tight feeling, not as flexible as some others I've tried. My favorite I've used (not sure of the exact name) are the gloves with the small black rubber dots that cover both sides of the gloves. they're a bit hard to find, I know guys I've worked with have found them at local chainsaw repair shops... good luck

Here are the ones I use.

They work really good for climbing and are very thin. The nitrile coating is better then the rubber on the ugly gloves as well as it is abrasion resistant. I usually get a pair to last 2-3 weeks depending on how much climbing I do. The price is right to. At a hardware store they are about $6 a pair but I get them online for half that. I will include a link to the glove store they a bunch of different kinds for all applications.

I have really only one bad thing to say about them and that is they will make your hands smell. Sometimes the glove will get sucked into my VT as well but that doesn't happen all that much. And being they are so thin they won't keep your hands warm so what I do is just buy a pair of cotton gloves to wear under the nitrile gloves.

Palm Flex Gloves

ive been using those off and on for awhile, they actually fit well, which is really really nice, for the long fingered small palmed guys out there. I dont find them to be as grippy though, but they do work better the uglies when slightly wet

Yep...they're not as grippy.

Hi I'm new here, the rubber grip gloves are ok but they always seem to rip quick for me. I actually started to use my joe rocket motorcycle gloves one day and I love them. They fit good and seem to be pretty durable. They are the atomic 2.0 model, I think they were around $30.

Hi ChuckR, I found them here http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com for $35. They are not grippy as the rubber gloves, because they are leather plam. Personally I like these, I haven't used them when it was raining or very wet so I can't say how they would be for wet conditions, but when it is dry, very work good for me. I guess it's person preference, I don't like gloves without some sort of wrist closure because I have problems with my wrist.

Thanks for your detailed response!!! The gloves you mention look similar to some nitrile gloves I have tried before but a different colour. My pair with their grey palms were v comfy but lacked the ultimate grip of the Ugly's, esp when wet. Are the ones you use different to this or is it cramped forearms on a wet day by noon???!!! /forum/images/graemlins/smilie_winki.gif

Thank you for link to the climbing site and your response to my question. How do the gloves fair in the wet on a thinner rope, Velocity for example?? Do you find they 'burn out' easily and quickly as they look a bit pricey? What do you pay in Euros??

Thanks again for your assistance my sangiovese swilling cousin!!
