Climbing boots

I recently bought LaSportiva extreme something or other - very light with vibram soul and gortex and 1 year guarantee. Use them for rec climbs and training mainly. Did a hairy limb removal and they worked well and footocked easily. I wouldn't use them working everyday and expect them to last a year, but the soul and toe cap etc. are guaranteed apparently - use low cut Viburgs for day to day spurs and spurless, but I have to swing a shovel too from time to time so need a steel shank. Viburgs are indestructable and can be re-soled, but weight a ton. I think most of Canada requires steel toe or CSA for tree work, especially with chainsaws.

Zappos headquarters is located in Sheppardsville, KY. Just 20 minutes down I65. I Need to make a visit. I Always like to try my boots on before I buy them.

Yes but as has been said it takes a while to get used to footlocking in them. I just like the support and the feel of these boots.

I climb in the La Sportia Trango extremes. I love them for most climbs this time of year. They are super stiff though so sensitivity is limited. With the pantin and spurs they work very well. I definately agree that sticky rubber does make a difference in a tree climbing boot.

My favorite boots ever were La Sportiva Boulder Alto boots that they stopped making years ago. Next time I find something that really works for me I'm going to buy a dozen of them.

I just replaced my old Timberland light hikers with an updated version of the same boot; they have some cordura where there used to be leather. The list price for these boots has been $89 US for over 20 years and these were on sale so I paid $63.

Good boots, I just learned to footlock and they work really well for assisted or secured footlocking. Light and waterproof too.

Worth mentioning.

I'm using Vasque Zephyr GTX. There's only a lip from toe to toe, so I'll probably use some of that goop they put on truck bed liners to cover the rest. I'd look into getting this version constructed with less parts in the uppers-- a non-GTX?

They have a Vibrum sole with a special pattern that is releases the good Texas Gumbo mud pretty well, or clean with a stick so you don't grind it into the rope FL'ing.

Someone in another thread had problems with this sole in foot locking; I happen to be doing better. The insoles can be interchanged tweaked for a better custom fit for a different width foot.
