Climbers

Never tried the Geckos. I wore the Kliens with offset gaffs for 10 years and really liked them. Got older and decided it was time for lighter gear and bought some T2's. Took me a while to get used to the straight gaffs but now I'm quite comfortable on them. I'd probably fall off the Kliens if I put them on today.

When I bought the T2's the long gaffs were not available yet from Buckingham. I backordered the long gaffs but didn't get them for about 4 months. By that time I had quit sliding around on the short gaffs and had become accustomed to them. I never did put on the long gaffs, still got them wrapped up in a drawer somewhere.

So in my experience it isn't so much what is better but what you are used to. At one time I was extremely comfortable with the long hooked gaffs on the Kliens and now I am extremely comfortable with the short straight gaffs on the T2's. If you had told me two years ago I'd be using short straight gaffs today I wouldn't have believed you.

I have the T2's and use them on CCA poles at work.
They are nice and light but the screw set up on the sleeves is cheaper than previous models where the irons were threaded.
I get by on most trees with the pole gaffs but still have a set of steel Buckinghams with the longer tree gaffs.

I use Alloy Bashlins with pole gaffs & find them better than Buckinghams or kleins as i have used both of the later. What i want to know is these velcro wrap around pads are they any good?.
Thanks.

Yes, they are good. I've been using them for 4 or 5 years now. I want to try out the 'cadillac pads', I just haven't gotten around to ordering them. THOSE are supposed to be the best.

i like Bashlins with Wraps too; though they tend to set idle mostly anymore.

GypoClimber blares ""No prussicks here!" on his site, so i wouldn't listen to anything s/he says; i always thought a taught line was just a beginner's knot anyway. /forum/images/graemlins/hitaxeonthehead.gif

Never answered what a Gypoclimber is either; i find that very suspiciously trolling along....Wha's Up? Is that supposed to be like manly?

Are all those big crane shots really supposed to be you?

Oh, you mean the thing about being at best an archaic white trash gypsy crazy cajun climber?

Heck; i was just trying to get you to admit it again!/forum/images/graemlins/applaudit.gif

Actually site is looking good, videos pretty neat

Now about that taught line and ciggarrette....

P.S.-For the folks at home Mr. Gypo; what do you think it will cost ya for a whole year of your websight; and what will it mean to you to have it? Do you think it will pay for itself easily somehow, or has it already?

The B'ham Super Wraps top pads make a day on hooks tolerable. Mine are probably seven years old and still in great shape. When I take them off, everytime, I take off the foot strap, dust off as many shavings as I can and then unwrap the tops. Give the Velcro a swipe and seal it back up. this keeps the hook and loop clean.

I googled gypo a while ago and got the understanding that it comes from the West Coast logging industry. There were loggers who were on company payrolls and then there were loggers who worked as sub-contractors or hired guns. Seems to fit with how Butch runs his ops.

A hundred bucks a year, or a weeks worth of Marlboros! /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

MB.....do not let them get to you. You seem to know your stuff so just keep up the good work and purchase those cadillac pads. You have been talking about getting them for months...
