Christmas tree options

Here in the northeast, NY area, Frasier and Balsam are the two main ones, maybe you could get more variety on firs/spruces at a tree farm.

7-8 balsams are under $50, Frasiers around $60 at that height. There's a shortage this year.

Usually it's a balsam but I've also done some long needle pines (red/white/Scotts) pine cones are like prehung ornaments for you

Definitely need a skirt under the tree to keep the pitch from dripping on the floor

If my wife would be open to it, I would have a potted cypress as a christmas tree and then plant it on new years day.
For years my brother would come from southeastern PA to central PA to get his tree. A friend of mine had a tree farm and would allow us to dig one rather than cut. It had become a tradition and we did that for about 15-18 years or so. One year as we both were huffing and puffing and sweating like pigs I suggested it was time for us to pass the tradition on the next generation, our sons. That never happened sad to say. Digging and planting out is a great idea.

One year a customer wanted one removed several weeks before Christmas and I cut it and used it when my father was alive in his house. Another year or two we had spruces with root balls and later planted them; I can't remember any of them surviving.
