Christmas Lights

Did anyone else get up in their trees to hang some lights this year? I finally put the star up in my Scarlet Oak about 11:30 pm Christmas Eve. It's sticking out of the top of the tree at about 90 ft with a string of commercial lights straight to the ground. The star has the big bulbs in it.

I'll get a few pics when I get a chance.

It was mainly my bad habit of procrastination. It's our first year in the house and I've been so busy doing other things. Somebody a few blocks away put one up about 50 ft high a few days ago, so that put the fuel in the fire. Competition is a great motivator!

I set my rope early in the day with plans to climb with sunlight, but my wife found some other last minute Christmas stuff for me to do. After that, some friends invited us over.

I live about 15 miles from Manhattan and there's enough lights around here that I didn't need to turn on the headlamp. Up and down in about 20 minutes (the star got stuck while pulling it up) and back in the house to crack the champagne at midnight.

The champagne at midnight is one of my wife's Colombian Christmas traditions. I personally don't like the stuff, but I go along with it.

Nice lookin' tree in the your attached pic. I might add some of those next year if you don't mind. Did you need many extension cords or do they have long cords? Now's the best time to buy lights; when they're probably 75% off reg price.

The extensions cords are the downside. I used (10) 40 footers. On sale at Menards for under $5. Ended up with a little duffle bag in the tree for the excess cordage and power strip. It was my first attempt at this sort of thing.

The tree is about 160 ft back from where I took this picture.

I have to go over to Woodbridge on Rt. 1 and take another pic. From there you can see a nice view of New York city and the star in my tree. That's a few miles away also.
