chipper truck

Hey, new to this page. I have been looking at chipper trucks for a couple weeks now and read some terrible reviews on the places I've looked. was wanting some insight on equipment dealers that sell good chipper trucks. I prefer an F 550 because it is under CDL and license are cheaper. any advice on this would be much appreciated. Thank you

Looking to build a 550 myself. I will probably end up buying new since they want all the money for used ones in nh. The gvw on a 550 is 19500lbs. As long as your chipper is 6500lbs or less your gold. If I end up buying one in the next few weeks I'll post pictures of the build.

In Illinois, your chipper is considered special use/agricultural equipment and is exempt from your gross vehicle weight combination. The tongue weight of the chipper does not count against the weight of the truck either. If you get scaled the chipper is supposed to be unhooked. A 2016 f550 gvwr is 19,500 pounds, therefore you can go with an even larger truck as long as you stay 26,000 and under.

In Wisconsin as long as your trailer is under 10,000lbs gwr it doesn't matter if your over 26,000 combined, you dont need a cdl. Once your gross on the trailer is over 10,000 pounds you need a cdl if the combined is over 26,000. It does vary by state but so many people have the actual laws wrong. You need to look them up yourself.
Example: My 26,000 gvwr FL60 pulling a 6,500 lbs chipper is under cdl, but my 15,000 gvwr F450 pulling my 12,000 gwr 12' dump trailer (even empty) requires a class A cdl.
