This is a pulley made by our friends that make pet products in Asia.I wonder whos making what for who...Hmm

Looks like a knockoff of a Petzl Fixe.
Are you implying that it IS a Petzl Fixe?
The Fixe has stamped markings, not printed or laser etched.

According to the first page of their manual, they are made in France. It's right under the CE0197 mark.

I don't really want to go into this to much,Though it could be said that this pulley bares a striking similarity to the fixey, though it is not,This pulley is marketed by another company equally well known. It was made to address the problem of the way climbers use the fixey as aslack tender ie: tying one end of their prusik line into the bridge across the two cheek plates. This bridge is not rated on the fixey,so there was a lot of questions asked both in the industry and at comps if this configuration should be a loud.So this well known company seems to have taken the fixey mould and had the bridge across the cheek plates rated ( as you can see by the marking on the first picture.)Now this asian climbing and pet equipment manufacturer would seem to have this exact same pulley in their equipment range. So back to my original question who's making what for who... Labour and manufacturing costs in Europe,(HIGH)- Labour and manufacturing costs in Asia ( LOW) You work it out.....

I could say alot more but I would get in trouble for sure...

Later Didj

P.S By the way this is not a unique case when it comes to these two companies having what would seem to be identical hardware....

There is lots of R&D in the Pacific Rim markets...Ripoff & Destroy not Research and Develop. The two pulleys are a good example. Not even close to the same quality, the unmarked one is a copy with unknown heritage. There are plenty of other examples. I remember seeing a copy of an older Stihl chainsaw that was being sold in the Australian/south Pacific market. Low quality copy at that from what was posted in discussion forums. Should Stihl be held responsible for the performance of this copy?

I've talked with owners/managers of gear manufacturers who have had their gear designs ripped off and compromised by some unknown Pacific Rim company. They are NOT happy to see this gear com e into the marketplace. None of the people that I have talked to have any business connection to these companies is what they tell me.

Value and quality control have to be tracked. With name brand gear I know which company to trust.

Why are you talking around the subject so much? Do you have some personal (employment?) exposure to this "this asian climbing and pet equipment manufacturer"?

Following the disputes regarding the importation of foodstuffs into Japan (China's largest trading partner) is interesting, the citizens are powerfully and effectively being proactive about what they suspect is no good and the merchants are listening. They're not being unreasonable either - farm goods have been shown to be tainted and some medical issues have been brought to light, resulting in nationwide boycotts but the government of Japan is warning it's people the issue might 'upset' other trade agreements.

Too bad.

If only America's people wouldn't be so gullible to ad campaigns and were concerned about important issues aside from who gets kicked-off American Idol or what a candidate's preacher feels is unjust, we might not have fallen victim to WalMart, Cheney, and Wall Street, who can do and say anything they wish to paint a pretty picture about and we buy it hook, line and sinker.

The Taliban is looking more reasonable that Western addictions lately.

I think your head was made for a turban, Reed. You should go join them, you'd be amongst friends, eh?

Hmmm...what happened to a person's right to free speech? It seems convenient to cry wounded when your expression is seemingly infringed on but then jump on anyone who disagrees with ya. Not very "American" in my book.

This has bugged me for years: Why is it that SherrillTree has been stocking Chinese-made shackles as long as I've seen their catalog?

What the hell else d'you expect from the company that produced 'Harrison Rocket' rip-offs?!

Scandalous!

Why buy a shackle from Sherrill anyway. I know we've got probably a dozen supply houses in the area where we can get clevis' without having to go to any mail order supplier. Tractor dealers have bomber stuff.

that Taliban comment was really nieve and way off base. Now I am not one who just believes that this country has never done anything wrong but that comment is disgusting and repulsive.
If you knew your history ,or took a look at it you would know that this country is and has been the single greatest force for good in the history of the planet!!! Fact bar none

Make sure you check the shackles and clevis' from local places too. They often have sub par stuff also. I buy all mine from companies specializing in lifing/crane supplies. They are rated and marked. We use this stuff in a hard environmet with dirt and shock loading. Their people are also knowledgeable in the use of them...as is the arborist supply companies......know what you are buying!

Someone who never experienced reality, believes Pat Tillman was brought down by enemy fire, Jessica Lynch emptied her clip before being taken prisoner, Saddam engineered 9/11, and America honored every single treaty made with it's native inhabitants.

Please do America a favor and stay away from the voting booth and never discuss anything you know nothing about with children...or anyone. What an ignoramous.

Enough...you two can take any more of your clobbering to PMs or get a room. Derailing threads so that the two of you can squabble is impolite and disrespectful to the discussion.

Knock it off...or take it to the Treehouse.
