Russell was my best friend growing up in central Colombia from 1964-1971. His family worked with the Kogi indians in the Sierra Nevada mountains of northern Colombia. at one point he was held for ransom by the FARC, but formed lasting friendships with his captors and wrote a book about his experience. (Rescue the Captors) We have not been much in touch for many years now, but his mother has sent me this news about him.
