He sure wasn't trained very well, his supervisors should be on report for a near miss.

Cutting bridged wood like that is very tricky. Playing pic-up-sticks with chainsaws can lead to death.

Why not skin out more of the tops, put cribbing or props on the butts, rig lines to support the butts.

And...at a minimum, have the climber on a rope that will hold him above the logs in case they fall down, like they did?

That tree stand is about 6 pieces of pressure treated lumber screwed directly to the tops of a ring of limbs. I built it on a Sunday before football season and hauled my then girlfriend (now fiance) up to the platform to ask for her hand in marriage.

She said yes.
