cheap replacement bars

I was wondering what some of you guys were using for replacement chainsaw bars. We run stihl only and have been less then impressed with the quality and life of our stihl bars, not to mention the price.

Has anyone had any success with a cheaper bar other than stihl? Where did you buy them?

Right now we are looking to replace 200t bars, 660, and 460. Any help would be appreciated.

Stihl makes a pretty good bar!

Oregon is a step down in quality but right on the money for the price. GB bars are very good especially their Ti bars. Cannon also. But if your scared of Stihls' price GB Ti and Cannon will blow your mind!

Well there you go! You're buying cheap bars and then wondering why they dont last. Try an ES bar and see how that goes. If you want to compare apples try Oregons laminated bars.

The bars on our 200s last forever. The 460 with the 24" bar can be a problem. The operator has a lot to say about how long a bar will last.

We run GB bars, they are NOT cheap, but for straight logging they last about twice as long as Stihl bars, so in the end, they are cheaper.
I am a big fan of Stihl's saws ( I have 9 of them) and other motorized gear, but I don't like their chains or bars.

High-end Windsor or Oregon bars here; I'd agree that proper use and care is the key by far. Keep it clean, sized, and deburred, and it should last you a long time.

Odd....Stihl chain is preferred by almost everyone I know that uses it and other brands. and the GB bars that I've had include a couple "Ti" ones were underwhelming at best. Soft so they bent easily....And the cheaper GB bars were junk, pretty much.

Weird.
I've had the exact opposite experience with the titanium alloy bars. Lots of spring, so even when we put a lot of sideways pressure on them, by stumpjumping small trees for instance, they stay straight.
I've always imported mine from Germany, since GB doesn't have a dealer in Denmark. I wonder if they make them different for the US market.
I'll soon find out, since I've got a whole stack of them from Baley's last month.
As for the chain, one rerason I prefer Oregon is simply because the raker gauge I use won't fit on a Stihl chain.

I like Stihl chain on my climbing saw because it almost never gets dull unless I cut into some dirty crap... but I'd rather sharpen an Oregon chain any day.

I've been using Oregon bars and been happy until last week when I busted the nose sprocket on a new 14" bar. I'm not sure how it happened but the forward rivet popped. I'll probably replace it with a GB just to see how I like'em. I don't like the curved profile (belly) on most shorter Stihl bars.

I'm with you Stig, but for chain I always want Carlton, I'b buy a carlton bar over any other bar also but they are getting harder and harder to find every day.

I have had good luck with Windsor speed tips, the last GB pro top I wasnt very impressed with the tip quilty on the 30" but really like the 16", The stihl ES never a problem but pricey, Oregon powermatch for my small mounted huskys so I can get a 60DL bar dont like the oilers I drill them out.
