Changing dump truck dump pump filter

Hi! I have a 2006 Ford F350 with an electric dump hoist/bed. I have owned and operated it for over five years, and it has been a great piece of equipment. Looking at the "used/new" thread here, I would have to say this is my best piece of used stuff, got it with 25k miles for $15k with the dump bed, and no problems to speak of, really.

Except, the dump bed has been getting slower and crankier over the last few months. To the point where I am not sure it's going to dump at all with heavy loads. I don't want to destroy the thing, so asking advice here.

I have been told the filter probably needs to be changed. Shame on me for not doing it previously, but anyway, just wondering if anyone here has done it. I think I can see where the filter canister is, but I'm mainly afraid of spilling all the fluid all over the place. Are there cutoffs anywhere to stop the flow, or will only a little come out?

Should I just screw it off and let it pour into a waste oil container and replace it all anyway?

Thanks for any help, I already know I was bad on the maintenance here, no need to flame me!

Thanks.

I would replace it all an electric hydraulic unit I won't take but a gallon or two usily, btw most of the units run ATF fluid not hydraulic oil as ATF doesent get nearly as thick in cold weather
