Overview
Provide full-service arbor care of all woody-stemmed plant varieties on campus. Work hours vary according to the season and temperature: 6 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. during the summer, and 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. during the cooler months.

Responsibilities
Collaborate with consulting arborist and master-plan architect. Inventory trees. Identify location, species, size and physical condition on master map. Install identification tags on trees.
Assess health of all woody-stemmed plant varieties on campus, prepare appropriate treatment plans and apply specified treatments.
Deliver instruction and direction to groundskeeping staff on the identification of woody-stemmed plant diseases and stress, and the safe and effective application of treatments and fertility programs.
Prune tree canopies and other woody stemmed plant varieties to shape, promote growth, remove dead material, and provide necessary building clearance.
Remove ball moss, mistletoe and other undesirable vegetation.
Install cable and otherwise structurally support weak limbs.
Seasonally conduct deep-root fertilization, drill trees and install necessary hardware for chemical treatments.
Recommend irrigation needs and apply soil amendments around root zones.
Appropriately dispose of debris.
Use, handle, store, and dispose of chemicals used in groundskeeping in a safe and proper manner.
Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications
High school graduate or GED required.
International Society of Arborculture certified arborist.
Seven or more years experience in arbor-care to include identification of diseases, pests, parasitic growth, nutritional deficiencies and other factors relating to tree health and appearance and their respective remedies.
Knowledge of genus-species of all native Central Texas tree varieties.
Five or more years experience in the use of rope-and-saddle and other equipment used in shaping and trimming of trees.
Ability to read English at the level necessary to understand job-related written materials and work orders.
Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid Texas drivers' license and insurable by university carrier.
Ability to work in inclement weather conditions.
Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs., climb ladders up to 20 ft., and work off a platform lift or rope-and-saddle at heights in excess of 20 ft.
Ability to comply with workplace guidelines and attendance requirements.
Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required.
Verifiable local references required.

Equipment Operated
Chainsaw, pole-saw, hedge trimmer, chipper, rope-and-saddle, reach-lift, forklift, dump truck, tractors and other utility vehicles with implements, and various other power and manual tools.
