Job Summary:
The Tree Care Coordinator & Inspector inspects trees, responds to and coordinates tree care requests, plans and executes tree care work orders, coordinates with CPC managers, and responds to emergency situations. The Tree Care Coordinator & Inspector also works with city wide agencies such as NYC DOT, MTA, NYC Parks & Recreation and NYPD.
Job Description:
Essential Job Functions:
·Inspect, plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review all tree care work.
·Supervise external contractors responsible for ongoing park maintenance.
·Monitor the work of crews and provide technical advice and assistance as needed.
·Communicate effectively with the general public and employees, in oral and written form.
·Perform tree inspections.
·Perform tree inspections utilizing advanced diagnostic tools.
·Perform and enter Tree risk assessments in to database.
·Ability to efficiently input substantial digital data: inspections, risk assessments, photos and data from advanced diagnostic equipment.
·Respond to park patron concerns, problems or complaints in a timely manner, maintaining a customer service philosophy that is responsive and maintains a positive public image.
·Respond to emergency situations in the park as they occur, including weekends and holidays.
·Maintain a visible profile in the park and with employees through field visits and inspection of park facilities.
·Maintain a safe and controlled work zone; ensure sites are secured as per CPC policies, procedures and protocols.
·Perform all required ground, climbing, and aerial lift duties as needed.
·Prune and remove trees according to the latest revision of ANSI A300 (Part 1) 2008 standards and ISA Best Management Practices- tree pruning (second edition).
Minimum Requirements:
·Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Arboriculture or a related field
·ISA Certification required minimum 2 years experience in tree care maintenance and supervisory experience.
·ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualified or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
·Valid US Driver’s License.
·Within one year of appointment, employee must possess a class B Commercial Driver License. The Class B Driver License must be maintained for the duration of employment.
·Possess a fundamental understanding and knowledge of tree physiology using modern arboricultural practices. Knowledge of IPM tree care management principles, including Dutch Elm Disease.
·Knowledge of principles of supervision and employee motivation.
·Knowledge of safe work practices, OSHA requirements, the latest revision of ANSI Z133.1
·Verbal and written communication skills to develop reports.
·Knowledge of operation of outdoor mechanical equipment.
·Performs additional responsibilities as needed.
·Intermediate computing skills are necessary for data entry of inspections.
Abilities Required:
·Work flexible hours including weekends, evenings, holidays and Park events as needed.
·Think critically and solve problems with efficiency and professionalism
·“Multitask” to handle competing priorities and demands
·Establish and facilitate effective working relationships with employees and contractors
·Lead and mobilize others into action providing support, training, mentoring and evaluation
·Sufficient strength and manual dexterity to operate power equipment
·Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
·Ability to stand, crouch, and climb to use ladders and perform various types of manual labor
·Ability to perform heavy, physical labor on a daily basis in all weather conditions
