Cenangium canker on red pine

Anybody out there dealing with this disease?

The plants were infested with Matsucoccus scale. They cleaned up great with hort. oil but the stress allowed the fungus in and now twigs and branches are being killed in a most unsightly fashion.

I'm thinking about "increasing the vigor" (read fertilizing) if it won't speed the fungal growth up, too.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

the only thing i have studied on this particular canker, is you must prune all the infected areas off and bury or burn the diseased limbs, i do not think i would fertilize, but maybe make sure there is no compaction, put some really good composting in and water try to keep it stress free,
