Cat stuck in a tree rescue with a trap

moss

Been here much more than a while
Using a trap to rescue a treed cat that wouldn't let me get near it, this is the wrap up after the cat went into the trap overnight. Tree is a swamp white oak, Quercus bicolor.

great idea. seems safer for both the cat and climber.

It's amazing how creative you get when you have a family looking up into a tree where their cat has been meowing non-stop for days ;-) If I can make a quick cat grab I'd rather do that, the trap takes some time to set up. But it's great to have the option if nothing else works.

I was concerned the bowline would slide on the bungy due to the cat moving, the cage then tipping to vertical orientation causing more panic, and the worst case being the shock load lets the bowline pull the top bungy hook off of the cage and dropping the cage with the cat.

In short I think your V bridle is not as good as can be, looks dangerous.

The bungee was to help keep both doors shut, the Bowline was tied to the trap handle which is very secure. I tend to over do it on safety ;-)

I sometimes "think aloud" while I'm doing something new, I captured the bungee with the Bowline thinking it might add a slight amount of horizontal stability for the ride down. The trap was very stable horizontally but I think it's because the cat didn't shift position.

This was my first cat rescue using a trap, everything went very well, I have some good ideas to work on for the next time I use one.
