Got my first call to rescue a cat in a tree today and although I'm much more of a dog person, it felt pretty damn good. It had been up there for more then 2 days and was about 50-60ft in a dead hollow black locust, but luckily there were some adjacent hickories to work from.
Welcomed suprise to make a little extra cash.

NICE , it took many years in this market until I got the Cat rescue call ... same deal muti day entrapment .... cat was grateful .... I have "rescued" many skiers before and the feeling of satisfaction from feline rescue was as warm and fuzzy as helping humans .... maybe more ...

I rescued maybe my fifth cat recently. The client was almost sobbing she was so relieved. But she was a college student and we still haven't gotten her to call in her credit card. Beware the person who is desperate, as your rescue will take away that desperation. I should have just said, okay, just a minute, let me go get an invoice and take an imprint of the card.

In the end, it was on the way home and I was glad to help out the kitty, and it wasn't that much $ anyway, so I won't fret too much, but it still chaps me some that she might stiff us. She had called all over town before she got to us and I agreed to do it.

The opposite happened to me this week. A homeowner called me from Dan's site, but it was not his cat. I have always charged so far, but decided to go do a freebie since it was close by. After the rescue, I called the phone number on the collar and left a message. Now, what to do with the cat?

I took it home and waited for the call. Finally, the cat owner called and came over to pick it up. The lady and her daughter had been out combing the neighborhood, known for coyotes. They happened on a house where a lady standing outside said some guy just climbed a tree for a cat. The owner was over my house to get the cat before she ever got home to check her messages.

She asked what usually I charge. I told her, but said nothing for this time since SHE didn't call me. But she paid me anyway! How often do you run into someone like that?
