carlton bars????

some guy wants to sell me a 30" Carlton (SP?) bar & chain for $25.00--brand spanking new from a place called Ahlborn. so...are these made out of cardboard? Does anyone know if they are usable for more than just one cut? Are they made in some banana republic? what should I do?

I do no like carlton chain at all. I seems to dull easier than stihl chain. Also when sharpening it it is easier to get it sharp faster which leads me to believe it is softer. I use nothing but stihl chain for all of my saws. I cant comment on the bar. But the chain stinks.

there is not a thing wrong with Carlton bar or chain . What saw are they for? If you don't want them can you give me the link or number? I'd buy everyone he has for that price.

the one I was quoted $25 including chain 404/063 was for an 090 from Ahlborn 1-800-472-7600 www.foresterbarandchain.com.
Ask for Kevin Pilllfant.

"I'd buy everyone he has for that price."

I think you will have to eat those words; he will have way more than you will want, unless, you have an awful big bunch of crews with an awful big work load. ...If you decide to buy them all leave at least one for me.

the chain is rounded; not chisel tooth but Kevin told me I could have a 100 link chisel tooth chain for...are you ready? $11.00... why do you think I'm questioning it?

Sounds cheap, especially with the chain! I have not used Carlton chain, so I can't comment on that, but I've used plenty of Carlton bars, and thought they were just fine.

heh! didn't know it was a back load supply. Seems he's just going to unload them and only sell forester bars from now on. I don't think you will be let down if you decide to try one.

Bare metal half moon style tip manufactured by Tsumura.

Bare metal single rivet tip is solid made in Germany.

Painted bars like Carlton Pro Champ bars are manufactured by GB

Carlton Bush Champ ??????? 30" looks like a HARDnose bar. If that is what you are looking at.

The Carlton chains are comparable to Oregon chain. No they are not as hard as stihl chain and no they are not as hard to sharpen as stihl chain. But they do cost a third of the price as a stihl chain and cut the same wood.

BUT do they cut the wood the same

My 200 with carlton chain cuts just as good as any of the other all stihl ones I see. My Efco 163 with carlton cuts as good as any 361 all stihl.

answer your question?

Holly come on. U have got to know that if u put a brand new stihl on a bar and a brand new carlton on a bar that the stihl performs better. Also stihl chains can take a bit more abuse b4 needing to be sharpened because of how hard they are.

No I really don't buy into it, brand new semi vs semi they cut the same.

I will agree stihl can take a bit more abuse, this show up real fast in sandy soil, but it also will eat your files up alot faster too. When touching up 24"+ bars I'll take the chain thats easier to file over being able to hold an edge for 1-2 more cuts. Keep it out the dirt and I belive they last about the same 2-3 days of hard cutting.

Theres your answer, the Stihl chain will cut more wood, for long, which is better, because of the higher chrome content in the chain.

Similiar to the new chain ORegon came out with that has a blue hue to the cutter tooth.

Well I bought the 30" carlton bar and chain for $25 back in April and have been buzzing my heart out with it since then.
It's been doing great! I think the chain -might- be a bit on the soft side; I really couldn't see that big of a difference. (It gets a lot of use on stumps and I cut them really low, which is to say, in the dirt, to save on stump grinding.) I probably was moved by the $$$ signs in my eyes. I just bought a couple of small used Stihls (024 and 028 if I'm not mistaken) I see that they both have Stihl laminated bars and their both wore right out...of course they just might have a million miles on each one but I doubt it because the saws look little used. Just seeing a laminated bar makes me want to change it out, I hate the cheap look of those things. The two Stihls are both getting Carltons. I told the nice man from Ahlborn that I would speak up for him and so I am keeping my word...for once. He calls me every 90 days or so to see if I need anything. I didn't like it at first but now I've gotten so that I keep a list on my desk for him and look foward to his calls. I'm enjoying his attention and I admire his hard working tenacity.
