carabiner for Kong ascenders

Hey Mahk, were you at nashville and did you see Marks climb in the masters. He showed a great way to use the konger. It worked really well(until he attached his RG to it and tried to pull it out /forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif). It was still an awesome climb. It looks like that would fit your needs to use the konger. Check it out if you already haven't.

I Have two questions. How was Marks second line attached to his access line? And is the backup in this system that both cams would have to slip to allow the climber to fall?

Hey Jeremy,

The climbing line was attached to the access line with a carabiner to the eye (but you could just tie it) and then clipped to a b'fly knot on the access. This does just as you describe- make a true back up in that both cams would have to fail to cause a fall. The side benefit is that your climbing line is in the top of the tree when you get there. /forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif

This is a modified technique that I learned from a friend in Italy. It was different, but lead me to this in the long run.

And Sawdust, thanks for the compliment! I appreciate it.

Well Brandon, I just do what I feel is the best for the given scenario. I made the wrong choice here obviously, but I am glad to see how it worked out. My climb wasn't too bad, but the plan didn't quite do the trick! /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif Next year maybe? You going to MN?

Mark,

I agree best tech for this situation should always apply. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. When the bad luck runs out you'll have your title again.

I plan on making it to MN next year. I was pretty bummed not making it this year. Schedule wouldn't allow it this year unfortunately.
I'll see you in Columbus though.
