can pole climber be used on tree gaff irons?

The only issue may be that gaffs may locate higher on the irons. The pole iron spikes are located lower. It will take alittle getting used to. i started using the pole gaffs a few yrs back and love it. The pines around here have really thick bark and I don't really have an issue. Vines suck w/ them though. Go for it. You don't like it change back.

I've used pole spikes for almost 20 years without issue. They work very well on hard barked species like hickory and sugar maple and still manage ok on thicker barked stull like loblolly pine.

If you mean, can they be switched, you'll have to check with the mfr.

If you mean do pole spike work, I use pole spikes on all removals except sapwood-rotted trees. I think that they are the way to go. I think maybe I used tree spikes on a really big redwood. I could have used tree spikes on a big doug-fir for the bottom 20'. I almost always use an SRT system for removals, so I don't worry about spurring out and sliding until I stop.

I have the Kleins , have stuck with Tree Gaffs 'cause I'm used to them ... Pole Gaffs would work just fine I'm sure ... I know a few climbers that depend on them solely... comes down to preference ... I sold my Buck Pole Gaffs because I really hardly used them....
