Camping in Charlotte?

Just wondering if anyone who is familiar with the Charlotte area could give me some advice. I am taking one of my guys to the TCIA expo and we were wanting to camp instead of staying in a hotel.

I have found a campground, McDowell Nature Center, that looks pretty good but it is about 25min from downtown Charlotte.

Any recommendations of better camping spots and information regarding what kind of traffic we might run into in the morning would be helpful.

I get to Charlotte a couple times a year to work and visit friends. Leave yourself a lot of extra time in the morning, especially if you have classes. There's a train system but I don't know the first thing about it. See you there.
