Click on the above link to see a camera installation above an eagle's nest 106 ft off the ground. They had a camera there before that was improperly installed using plumbers tape girdling the stem. I removed it and installed the base of the camera like you would the washers while cabling on a thick bark tree. This is a Cotton Wood located in Pierre-Marquette State Park in Grafton, IL. There is a transmitter at the base of the tree that sends a signal to the visitor center of the state park so that all can see the eagles in their natural habitat.

Re: Camera Installation Above an Eagle\'s Nest

So eagles reuse their nests? It was stable to put your weight on the nest? Your smell around the nest isn't a problem? And where you just a little scared that bad boy wasn't coming back to rip your head off, lol? Looked like a great climb. Tough going around that nest but none the less very cool.

Re: Camera Installation Above an Eagle\'s Nest

From what I understand is that she did have several nests in the area and she will chose one for the year.
when I got in the nest there were fresh fish heads and tails so hopefully its the right nest.
I had the same question about my smell and stepping in to the nest but the conservation officer said it was it was no problem.
the nest was very structurally sound most the limbs making up the out side are one to two inc in diameter.
And as far as her coming back, Well she did, about 30 foot away from me.
So I pulled out my hand saw to do battle but she just flew around me twice and took of back down the river. Thank the GODS!

That is very cool. I just read "Mind of the Raven" by Bernrd Heinrich. He did some nest raiding. They didn't seem to mind his smell. Smart birds, ravens. Thanks for posting the pics.

Very cool! It’s amazing how those nests are constructed. It reminds me of how the monk parakeets in CT build their stick nests to stay warm in the winter.
